The teaching of Occupational Therapy began as part of the Special Education program at the Michigan State Normal College in 1941. By 1942, the curriculum was evaluated by the American Medical Association and found to meet the requirements for accreditation, and its first graduating class was in 1944. Eastern Michigan University has several Occupational Therapy Student Organizations.
