Abstract The Department of Special Education was founded at Michigan State Normal College in 1914, and today is the oldest and one of the largest special education programs in the United States. The department is now administered by the College of Education, and has expanded its curriculum to include Occupational, Hearing, Sight, and Speech Therapies.
