Scope and Contents
The Department of Military Science and Leadership records range from 1940-2011 and are arranged into four series: Administrative Files, Events, Press and Maki, Frank R. The Administrative Files series contains Cadet Handbook, Correspondence, Forms, Members, Motions, Report, and Responsibility, Functions, and Organizations. The Events series contains fliers, invitations and programs, as well as photographs. The Press series contains the Assassination of John F. Kennedy, Cadet Courier, Clippings, Military Discrimination, Newsletters, News Releases, and Pamphlets files.The Maki, Frank R. series contains military correspondence, awards and certificates, eulogy and photographs. The collection does not contain materials from faculty members, departmental meeting minutes, or course materials.

Biographical / Historical
Major Frank Maki was born in 1928 and died on June 22, 1971 at the age of 43 in Vietnam. In 1961 he was assigned the role of an ROTC Instructor at Eastern Michigan University. During his time at EMU he led the rifle team to the championship and served as an advisory to the Arm of Honor Fraternity.
