Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The VISION records contain information on budget, correspondence, clippings, newsletters, proposals, school information, external organizations, service training, and visual materials. The collection is divided into five series.

The Administration series contains information regarding an agreement between EMU and the City of Ypsilanti, budget, grants, coordinator materials, correspondence, deep thought exercises, fire victim information, fundraising, Institution for the Study of Children, Families, and Communities report, organization contracts, proposals, school information, and service training. The Coordinator subseries includes handbook and coordinator guidebook. The Proposals subseries includes the College Work Study Student Community Workers Modules proposal. The last subseries in the Administration series is Service Training which includes Starting Strong: A Guide to Pre-service Training.

The Memorabilia series contains awards, banners, t-shirts, and other objects from the VISION office. The highlight of this series are the journals compelted by students participating in the Alternative Spring Break program.

The Publicity and Outreach series includes information related to Americorps, brochures and flyers, clippings, correspondence, external organizations pamphlets and brochures, Community Plunge, Habitat for Humanity, History of Vision, National Make a Difference Day, newsletters, news releases, oral histories, Parkridge, Stewardship and Engages our Members to advance the Interests, Students to Student Higher Learning Initiative, Surveys, Volunteer Spirit Awards, and Ypsilanti Youth Empowerment Act. There is a subseries Americorps that includes America Reads Challenge, director’s meeting, forms and applications, newsletter and publicity and Make a Difference Day that includes correspondence and a manual. The Visual Materials series contains photographs, scrapbooks, and slides. Many of the photographs were taken at Alternative Spring Break, American Reads and Community Plunge events. Each of these are organized into event subseries and further organized chronologically.

The Volunteer Programs series includes information about VISIONS's programing. Alternative Spring Break, Best Buddies, Habitat 4 Humanity, Jump Start, Impact, and other program files are contained in this series.
