Scope and Contents
The record group Abdeen Jabara papers, documents the activities of the well-noted civil rights attorney from 1974-1982. Series within the subgroup include Court Documents, documenting civil rights cases, and the Estate of Sam Dean; and the Northwestern University African Studies Program, documenting Jabara’s involvement with the program.

Synopsis
Documents relating to the estate case of Sam Dean, aka Mohammed Abdul Daim, deceased 1968, left funding in his will for a Mosque in Telkalakh, Syria; a portion of the funds were also to be used for a charitable society to benefit the poor in that town. The funds in trust were to be used exclusively for religious and charitable purposes. Documents and correspondence detail the issues surrounding the case and the involvement of attorneys Abdeen Jabara, and Alfred May, as well as estate executor George Bashara.
