Sub-societies, 1880 - 1966
Scope and Contents
In 1880, with the sanction of the Board of Education Principal MacVicar made the radical reorganization of societies at Michigan State Normal School. All the other old organizations were abolished. Lyceum was subdivided into different societies with a limited membership. This new organization more or less only retains the original name Normal Lyceum. The new societies generated from the reorganization of societies on campus were the Olympic (originally called Riceonian), the Atheneum, the Adelphic, and the C resent societies. The original Lyceum still held meetings two or three general meeting every year, with equal number of participants being selected from each of the divisions. The Sub-societies series includes materials relating to the four sub-societies, Adelphic, Atheneum, Olympic, and Crescent. Each of these subseries includes constitutions, correspondence, and event materials.
