Press Clippings, 1969 - 2012
Scope and Contents
This collection documents the professional career of Eastern Michigan University Emeritus Professor, Dr. Andrew Nazzaro. Nazzaro served with EMU for 45 years until his retirement in 2015. No personal or biographical documents are present in this collection. This collection illustrates the changes incured over 45 years in the field of Historic Preservation education at one of the largest Historic Preservation programs in the United States. Some of the significant topics represented in this collection are EMU campus building inventories, building preservation plans including an extensive survey of the EMU Science Facility construction plans, African American Studies, international preservation concerns, campus statuary, and various publications of the EMU Geography Department. The materials under Teaching Files include notable student papers, individual course activities, assignments, student advising documentation, and university computer system manuals. Under the heading "Correspondence," you will find printed emails and written letters between faculty and department heads, most notably a long communication thread between Nazzaro and Dr. Linda Pritchard, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. In 2003, a disagreement arose over whether to downsize the Department of Geography, and along with emails and departmental memos, there are numerous meeting minutes included here concerning this particular university issue. The campus building preservation plans, completed by Nazzaro's students, are insightful on two levels: they offer a look into Historic Preservation curriculum, while also serving as helpful guides in the early stages of buidling preservation. The photography included in the collection represents Historic Preservation course field school, and other departmental activities. The format of photographs includes film, negative, slide, and digital photographs contained on floppy disk. The Departmental Files included contain course brochures, essays written for deliverance at various geography seminars and conferences, grievance filings, and local historic district ordinances. The collection is divided into nine categories: Biographical Information, Correspondence, Teaching Files, Department Files, Photography, Structure Preservation Plans, Press Clippings, Floppy Disks, and Videotape.
