Scope and Contents
The Carl M. Erickson papers include the personal and professional papers of the former Michigan State Normal College professor. The collection is arranged in one series: Career and Legacy. This series contains clippings, college retirement plans, committees, correspondence, evaluations, grade book, news releases, Normal News, obituaries, and Public Education in Michigan. The Career and Legacy series contains three sub-series: Committees, Evaulations, and Normal News. The collection is arranged alphabetically. Records date from 1925-1992, with the bulk of the materials from 1930-1950.

Biographical / Historical
Carl Martin Erickson was born in Oscoda, Michigan 1895 March 28. Erickson graduated from Oscoda High School in 1911 and then attended Ferris Institute for one year. He then served in the United States Marine Corps in World War I from 1917-1919. After returning from the war, Erickson then attended Michigan State Normal College where he received his Bachelor's Degree. He earned both his Masters and Doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1926 and 1929. Erickson joined the faculty at Michigan State Normal College in 1925 as a member of the Mathmatics Department. Erickson was involved in the campus and community. He served on the Ypsilanti Safety Council, the Faculty Council, many committees, was a Greek Life advisor, and was involved with the Normal News publication. He remained a part of the faculty at Michigan State Normal College and later Eastern Michigan College until 1957. Erickson died 1958 February 17.
