Scope and Contents

The University House records includes Board of Regents minutes, clippings, correspondence, grand opening information, Holiday Home Tour, news releases and a Performance Audit of the University House. There are two series in the collection: 1. Procedures and Finding Reports prepared for EMU University House, which includes the report, attachments 1-26, and attachments 27-49; 2. VHS Tapes including Fox 2 News Report on President's University House, and Presidents House series. The collection is arranged alphabetically. Records date from 2000-2009.

Historical Note

The University House at Eastern Michigan University serves as the President's home, and as a gathering place for University events. The building measures a total of 10,000 square feet, with 3,500 being a private area for the University President and their family. Construction began on the building in 2001, and it was dedicated 2003 September 16. The house revolves around controversy, as it cost $1.6 million over the allotted budget for the building, among other issues. This controversy resulted in the termination of then President Samuel Kirkpatrick, and several members of the Board of Regents.
