Abstract

The William D. Ford Time Magazine Covers collection was donated by Congressman William D. Ford from his personal collection and contains select covers dating from 1962 until 1993 featuring prominent politicians of the time. Some of the covers are signed by the politician featured, including Senator Edward Kennedy, Gerald Ford, as well as Bill and Hillary Clinton. The dates span Congressman Ford's time serving in the Michigan State Senate from 1962-1964 and the U.S. House of Representative from 1965 until his retirement from politics in 1993.

Biographical / Historical

William D. Ford was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University before he decided to serve in the United States Navy in World War II. After the war, he studied law at the University of Denver Law School before practicing in Taylor, Michigan. In 1962, Ford was elected to the Michigan State Senate and served until 1964. In 1965, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives first from Michigan's 15th district, and in 1993, from Michigan's 13th. Ford died at his home in Ypsilanti, Michigan in 2004.
