Charles McKenny papers
Scope and Contents
Charles McKenny was the 12th president of Michigan State Normal College, serving from 1912 to 1933. McKenny Hall, named in honor of Charles McKenny, was dedicated in 1931 as the student union and while it still bears the name it is now used for classroom instruction and administrative and program offices.
The Charles McKenny papers include the following files: researcher biographies, building dedication programs, materials regarding a bust of McKenny, press clippings, letters of condolence following McKenny's death, correspondence, CVs, genealogy papers, materials regarding McKenny's changes to the housing rules, office files, publications, including books and poetry, and copies of the MSNC songbook, dedicated to McKenny.
It does not include extensive documentation from the office of the president, e.g. correspondence, meeting minutes, memorandum, or major policy documents.

Biographical Note
Charles McKenny was born on September 15, 1860 in Dimondale, Michigan; he was educated at Michigan Agricultural College, receiving his B.S. in 1881, and also received a B.A. and Masters from Olivet College in 1889 and 1892, respectively. McKenny taught throughout Michigan from 1882 through 1887, and served as a professor at Olivet College 1895-6. He served as the principal of Central State Normal School (later Central Michigan University) in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, from 1896-1900, and president of State Normal School Milwaukee from 1900 through 1912. Finally, McKenny was appointed President of Michigan State Normal College in 1912, a position he held through 1933. McKenny died on September 23, 1933 at his home in Ypsilanti.
