Abstract
The Lewis Henry Jones reference collection documents the 11th president of Michigan State Normal College, who served from 1902 to 1912. His papers include such materials as correspondence, clippings, and researcher biographies.

Biographical Note
Lewis Henry Jones was born on July 3, 1844 in Noblesville, Indiana, and was educated at the Spiceland Academy in Indiana and the Oswego Normal School in New York. Jones was married on March 21, 1872 to Sarah Ellen Good. From 1871-1874, Jones taught at the Indiana State Normal School; in 1875 he taught at the Indianapolis High School, and served as Principal of the Indiana State Normal School from 1876 to 1884. Jones was superintendent of the Indianapolis Schools from 1884 through 1894, and transferred to the Cleveland Public Schools as superintendent from 1894 through 1902. Finally, in 1902, Jones was named President of the Michigan State Normal College, a position he held through 1912. Henry Lewis Jones passed away on August 11, 1917.
