Biographical Note

Malcolm MacVicar was born in Argyleshire, Scotland on September 30, 1829. His family relocated to Canada in 1835, settling in Chathain, Ontario. MacVicar enrolled at Knox College in 1850, was ordained into the Baptist Ministry in 1856, and completed his B.A. degree at Rochester University in 1857. He received his Ph.D. from the University of New York in 1868, and a J.D. from the University of Rochester in 1869. MacVicar served as a professor and principal of Brockport Collegiate Institute, later the State University of New York at Brockport, and served in administrative roles in Kansas and New York before his post as President of Michigan State Normal College from 1880 to 1881. Throughout his life, he continued to work for the Baptist Church in educational and missionary endeavors. MacVicar passed away in 1898.
