 Collection
Identifier: 02.PCLU

Abstract

In 1990, Eastern Michigan University president William E. Shelton initiated a campus wide strategic initiative to build a "Learning University." The President's Commission on the Learning University records documents this undertaking which was also known as the President's Commission on Blueprint 150. The commission was created to lead the initiative and oversee the work of several campus task forces exloring every aspect of EMU life and its effect on student learning. There were task forces that looked at assessment, access and equity, budgeting and records, academic program design, research and inquiry, teaching effectiveness and faculty development, diversity and multiculturalism, and the work environment. The commission was also responsible for funding programs and other on-going projects that supported the idea of a "Learning University" at the completion of the project. There is no documentation in the collection outside of press releases to document which programs and projects were funded. Included in the collection are speeches, press releases and clippings, meeting notes, correspondence, and a selection of task force final reports.
