Administrative History

Beta Gamma Sigma was founded in 1907 at the University of Wisconsin as a commerce honor society, whose purpose was to "...encourage and reward scholarship and accomplishment in the field of business studies among commerce students..." Simultaneously, the University of Illinois founded a similar society, called Delta Kappa Chi, as the University of California Economics Club was created. In 1913, representatives from the three organizations met in Madison, WI to merge their respective organizations, making Beta Gamma Sigma a national organization.

The objectives of the Society as set forth in Article II of its Constitution, included in the Organizational History series of this collection:

"The purposes of this Society shall be to encourage and reward scholarship and accomplishment among students of business and administration, to promote the advancement of education in the art and science of business, and to foster integrity in the conduct of business operations."
