Abstract

The Gus (Zilke) Howard collection contains a 1927 Aurora, clippings for the Michigan State Normal College Gymnastics team, programs from events on campus and events where Mr. Howard performed, and other clipped articles about athletics in Michigan and Michigan State Normal College. Mr. Howard was born in c. 1905 and graduated from Detroit Eastern High School and attended Michigan State Normal College as Gus Zilke. He was a member of the gymnastics team and performed at various events on campus both in the capacity as an acrobat and also in the comedy duo Gus and Will. He was a member of the Fraternity Arm of Honor although there is very little in the collection about his membership. Most of the collection consists of clippings in which Zilke is mentioned.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The 1927 Aurora yearbook, which contained all of the additional materials in the collection was donated to the University Archives by Professor Emeritus Erik Pederson, 2014 February 14.
