Historical Note
In 1975, for the installation of University President James Brickley, John E. Van Haren faculty member in the Art Department was commissioned to create a Presidential Medallion to be worn by Brickley. According to Van Haren, the medallion was created to represent the tradition and heraldry of the institution and was designed by Van Haren along with his students. The medallion was used until 2000 when it was donated to the University Archives. Additional information about Van Haren who served on the teaching faculty of the Art Department for over 39 years can be found in his biographical file in the University Archives.
