Scope and Contents
The Phi Kappa Phi Society collection contains information on the Eastern Michigan University Chapter of this national honor society. The collection contains information on chapter history, chapter records, membership list, meeting minutes, clippings, correspondence, National Handbooks, and programs.
The collection is arranged alphabetically and divided into two main series, Administration and History, and Publicity and Outreach. Administration and History series contains information on chapter history, chapter records, initiates list, invitations to membership, meeting minutes, and membership and elections. The chapter records are further divided up chronologically dating from 1973 to 1983. The meeting minutes are also further divided chronologically dating from 1973 to 1977, 1981 to 1993. The Publicity and Outreach series includes information on announcements, clippings, correspondence, member mailing lists, memorandums, National Handbooks, newsletters, petition, programs, releases and a scrapbook.
Records date from 1973 to 2012 with the bulk of materials from 1973-2004.

Administrative History
The Phi Kappa Phi Society was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine. It is one of the nation's oldest, largest and most selective collegiate societies for academics. Since its founding Phi Kappa Phi Society has initiated over 1 million members. Phi Kappa Phi promotes and recognizes academic excellence in all fields of study of higher education. Juniors and seniors in undergraduate school may be initiated if they are in the top 7.5% or 10% of their classes respectively.
Phi Kappa Phi's 154th chapter was installed at Eastern Michigan University on September 18, 1973.
