Scope and Contents

The Pi Omega Pi Society collection contains information about constitution and history, meeting minutes, pledge books, newsletters, pamphlets and yearbooks. The collection is arranged alphabetically.

The collection is divided into two series. The first series Administration and History includes information on constitution and history, meeting minutes, membership lists, pledge books and scrapbook. The meeting minutes are further subdivided chronologically from 1949-1958 and 1959-1963. The second series includes information on Publicity and Outreach. This series includes chapter newsletters, Here and There National Newsletters, pamphlets, and the Pi Omegan National Yearbook. The chapter newsletter series is further subdivided chronologically 1959-1967, 1968-1972, 1973-1979. The Here and There National Newsletter series is also further subdivided chronologically 1958-1965, and 1968-1979.

The records date from 1949 to 1985.

Administrative History

Pi Omega Pi Society was founded in on June 13, 1923 at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri. The society exists to create, encourage, promote and extend interest in scholarship and to promote high ethical standards in business and professional life. They are affiliated with the National Business Teacher Education Honor Society. Members may be undergraduate or graduate business students.

The Beta Phi Chapter of Pi Omega Pi was established at Eastern Michigan University on June 4, 1949. This chapter became defunct in the late 1980s.
