Sigma Delta Psi is a national honorary athletic fraternity that was active on the campus of the Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) in the 1920s through the 1960s. According to the description in the 1927 Aurora yearbook "Sigma Delta Psi [was] the only fraternity of its kind in the United State. [With] chapters in thirty-five of the leading Colleges and Universities of America. The organization started in Yale and spread to other institutions. Its requirements [were] scholastic, athletic and social." The University of Michigan and Western were the only two other institutions of higher learning with Sigma Delta Psi chapters, the chapter at Michigan State Normal College was the first in Michigan. There were a series of athletic requirements for membership including:

100 yard dash run in 11.3 seconds or under One mile run in 6 minutes or under High Jump of 5 feet or more Shot put of 30 feet of more Football punt (on fly) of at least 40 yards Hand stand for at least 10 seconds and a 100 yard swim of at least 2 minutes duration
