Scope and Contents
The World College and Academic Programs Abroad records document the World College and Academic Programs Abroad programs at Eastern Michigan University. Materials are arranged into three series Administrative Files, Cultural History Tours and Photographs.
The Administrative Files series consists of, correspondence, Fulbright Grant Competition, Fulbright Scholars, Handbook for International Agreements Draft, Position Posting for Director of International Programs, Student-Faculty International Exchange and Washtenaw Community College/Eastern Michigan University Cross-Registration. Within the Administration files series there are five sub series: Grants, Office of Academic Programs Abroad, Press, Programs and Retreats and Reports. The Grants sub-series contains the 2010 International Stimulus Grant and Travel Grant materials dating October 2001 to 2008. Office of Academic Projects Abroad files are arranged by Operations, Students, Marketing, Orientation, Staff Memos, Study Abroad Reunion, Transcript and Grades. Press contains clippings dating 1976 to 2007, flyers and posters dating 1980 to 2012, newsletters dating 1988 to 1996, news releases dating 1987 to 2011 and pamphlets. Programs and Retreats sub-series contains materials on the 2003 and 2004 International Cultural Competence Institute (ICCI), annual conference programs for Languages and Communication for World Business and the Professions dating 1988 to 1996 with the bulk ranging from 1988 to 1993, ICCI Information and Registration booklets dating 1993 to 1995, Midwest Consortium for Study Abroad and Planning Retreat for International Education Central Committee: January 29, 2010. Reports include materials on Administrative Review of the World College: December 15, 1999, Board of Regents: Establishment of the World College Report October 28, 1987, Board of Regents: Latin American Initiative Recommendation/Report: April 26, 1989, Establishment of a World College: December 1987, International Cultural Competence Institute Annual Report 2004, International Education Planning Committee: Bon Voyage Retreat: January 29, 2010, International Education Partnership Agreements, Internationalization of the College of Arts and Sciences Strategic Plan September 8, 2009, Program Review Report: World College and Academic Programs Abroad: February 25, 2009, Service Learning in Mexico, U.S.-Vietnam Education Task Force Report: September 2009, and World College Strategic Development Plan.
The Cultural History Tours series is arranged in three sub-series General Tour files, Asian Cultural History Tours, and European Cultural History Tours. The General Tour files sub-series includes, application charts, course descriptions, handbooks, forms, Tour Packets and reports. The Asian Cultural History Tours sub-series contains Brochures dating 1988-2000 with the bulk dating 1994 to 2000, Course Syllabi from 1996, and Program and Course Information Packets for winter 1994. In the European Cultural History Tours sub-series contains Brochures spanning 1980-1999 with the bulk dating 1983 to 1999, 1986 Course Offerings, Travel Information for 1985, Promotional Packets dating 1984 to 1987, Tour Notes spanning 1990 to 1995 and Program and Course Information Packets spanning from 1984-1993 and 1996 to 2000.
The Photographs series contains photographs from Europe dating 1977, Mexico dating 1981 and Vienna dating 1985.

Administrative History
Eastern Michigan University’s Academic Programs Abroad offers a variety of study abroad programs including cultural history programs, direct exchanges, intensive language and programs offered over winter and summer break. Most programs are open to students from any college or university. EMU students can apply financial aid awards toward the programs. They also provide advising and information about study abroad opportunities available through other universities; work or volunteer opportunities abroad; and budget travel. Although Academic Programs Abroad was for a period of time part of the World College it also operated as a separate entity, and does to this day, with a separate budget.
Administrative History
The World College at Eastern Michigan University was established in 1987 with the mission to help promote and guide the internationalization of courses, programs, departments, and activities across Eastern Michigan University. For a period of time Academic Programs Abroad reported to the World College which was likely dissolved around 2008 as it is last listed in the 2007-2009 Undergraduate Catalog.
