Julea Ward Case records
Abstract
The Julea Ward Case records document the legal proceedings that took place between Julea Ward and Eastern Michigan University. Ward was a counseling graduate student at EMU when she refused to counsel a client about a homosexual relationship because of her religious beliefs. This decision led to Ward's dismissal from the program. Ward filed in law suit in order to be readmitted to the program. The law suit has prompted a house bill prohibiting religious discrimination against college students studying counseling and is still being examined by the Supreme Court. The collection contains supporting legal documents, press releases and newspaper clippings. Records date from 2009 to 2012.
