The Rural Education Student Organizations records include materials from various clubs and student organizations associated with rural education at Michigan State Normal College.

The Rural Education Student Organizations records have been divided into two series: Trailblazer Club and Collegiate Country Life Club. The Trailblazer Club records include the club constitution and bylaws, membership rosters, meeting minutes, correspondence, newsletters, programs, and other organizational records. The bulk of this material is dated 1922 to 1929. The Collegiate Country Life Club series includes a membership roster, certificates, programs, and financial receipts.

Administrative History

There have been several Rural Education Student Organizations at Michigan State Normal College. The Trailblazer Club was devoted to rural education; its purpose was to "develop group spirit, social ease, ability to speak in public, skill in conducting public meetings, and other such powers as will prove helpful to teachers in public service." (Constitution, Article I).

The Collegiate Country Life Club was for students interested in rural life and in rural school teaching. The club activities included a mixture of both social and educational programs, as well as monthly meetings.
