Abstract

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction housed in the College of Education at Eastern Michigan University offered courses related to teaching methodology as well as the content and organization of school programs. An organizational unit from 1969-1981, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction records contains annexes, memo's, and agendas from departmental meetings ranging from 1970-1980. Materials are arranged chronologically, maintaining the original order imposed by donor and creator Dr. Scott Westerman.

Administrative History

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction first appeard as a division under the Coordinator of Student Teaching in the College of Education in the 1969-1970 Eastern Michigan University undergraduate catalog. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction last appeared in the 1980-1981 Eastern Michigan University undergraduate catalog as a department in the College of Education. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offered courses related to teaching methodology and the content and organization of school programs. Dr. Scott Westerman served as Director of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction beginning in 1971 before moving on to serve as the Dean of the College of Education until 1991.
