Scope and Contents
The Office of Alumni Relations records include materials from the 1920s to 2010 that document the activities and operations of the Office of Alumni Records at Eastern Michigan University.
The Office of Alumni Relations records includes 7 series of records including: Administration and History, Board of Directors, Correspondence, Events, Publications, Realia, and Visual Materials. The Administration and History series includes documents relater to Awards, Bylaws, Regional Chapters, Conferences, Directories, Emeritus Club (E-Club), and Membership to name the more complete subseries. The Board of Directors series includes Reports, Surveys, Nominations and more complete series of Minutes and Treasurer's Reports. These records date back to the 1920s when the effort to raise funds to build a student center helped to mobilize alumni. The outcome of these efforts were the construction of McKenny Union which served as the Student Union until the mid-2000s. The Correspondence series is organized by type of correspondence, General, Outgoing, Incoming, Letters and Newsletters. The Events series is focused on documenting the programs and recurring events sponsored by and organized by the Alumni Office. In particular Homecoming, Regional Events and Local events. The Publications series includes informaiton on the various iterations of the Alumni Newsletter including Connection, Eastern Today, E-Edge Newsletter, and other non-recurring publications.
The last two series in the collection are Realia and Visual Materials. These include internally documented events and items created to promote these events. Examples of this includes Banners, Buttons, Pins, Photographs, Posters, and Scrapbooks. Dates have been attached to items when possible.
This is an extensive collection of an organization that documents an office that grew to meet the changing needs, size and demographic of the alumni of the University.

Open for research. Researchers are asked to request materials at least 24 hours prior to use through the University Archives.
Administrative History
The Office for Alumni Relations is the coordinating body for all alumni activity and works in tandum with the Alumni Association. A primary goal of the office is maintaining contact with EMU's growing alumni base in an effort to engage them in the University. Major yearly events coordinated by the office include Homecoming and the Annual Alumni Awards Dinner. The office hosts thousands of alumni and friends annually at events both on and off campus with a comprehensive outreach program involving alumni in Michigan and outside the state. Alumni volunteer opportunities are coordinated by the office are the Alumni Admissions Recruitment Team (AART), Career Connection and EMU Caucus. Publications serving EMU alumni and friends with important news and information include Eastern magazine (formerly The Edge and Exemplar), the e-Edge electronic monthly newsletter as well as their web site.
