Abstract

Viola Amy Hanna was born in Southfield, Michigan to parents Robert Hanna and Alice Leona Hanna (born Skinner), May 18th 1894. She attended the Michigan State Normal School and received her life certificate in teaching at the April Commencement of 1914. She was married to Ford Peabody and together they raised three children, Frank, Alford and Ralph.

The papers of Viola Hanna Peabody's first son Frank are at the Michigan State University Archives [https://findingaids.lib.msu.edu/repositories/2/resources/395]. Frank was a graduate of MSU and went on to serve on the faculty from 1953-1987. Viola's husband Ford died in 1963 and she died in 1978. Her scrapbook contains programs from commencement events, but the majority of items in the scrapbook are photographs taken around campus and Oakland County, Michigan. Included in the photographs are Professors William Sherzer and Fannie Cheever Burton; registrar C.P. Steimle; the May Day celebrations; Pokagon Wigwam; and buildings throughout campus.
