Scope and Contents From the Series: In October of 1988 the Michigan Department of Civil Rights issued a report that made suggestions that all schools using Native Americans names and mascots to change their names and mascots. The report stated that the use of Native American names and mascots for athletic teams promoted racial stereotypes.
