The Splerb Veebleys
Scope and Contents
The John Rice memorabilia collection consists of three series, Shirts, Eastern Michigan University Sweater, Photographs, and Assorted Items most materials were collection during Rice's time as University Videographer. Most materials date from 1986-2011.
Shirts contains T-shirts collected from various Eastern Michigan University events and is divided into three subseries, General Campus Life, Homecoming and Events and Programs. Photographs contains photographs taken by Rice of events and places on campus and of campus teams. Assorted Items contains items collected from homecoming and other campus events.

Researchers are asked to request materials 24 hours prior to visiting the the University Archives.
Biographical / Historical
The term "Splerb Veebley" originated from an intoxicated conversation between John Rice in his friends where they were trying to formulate a new language. When "Splerb Veebley" was thrown into the mix, the group thought it was hilariuous and the rest is history. The group identifies as the Splerb Veebleys to this day.
