Scope and Contents

The John Rice memorabilia collection consists of three series, Shirts, Eastern Michigan University Sweater, Photographs, and Assorted Items most materials were collection during Rice's time as University Videographer. Most materials date from 1986-2011.

Shirts contains T-shirts collected from various Eastern Michigan University events and is divided into three subseries, General Campus Life, Homecoming and Events and Programs. Photographs contains photographs taken by Rice of events and places on campus and of campus teams. Assorted Items contains items collected from homecoming and other campus events.

Biographical / Historical

John Rice was the videographer for Eastern Michigan University (EMU) for 20 years from 1985 to around 2009. He received his bachelor's degree in telecommunications from EMU in 1981 and began working at the radio station, WEMU that same year. Rice became a self-employed video producer in 1985 and did projects for various departments on EMU's campus, especially Athletics. In 1988, Rice was appointed Marketing Media Associate at EMU and while in that position produced videos to be used for marketing purposes by the University. In the fall of 1993, he established E-TV, the University television channel. In 1999, Rice produced a documentary video Remember for the University's Sesquicentennial anniversary which documented the University's long history.

Abstract

The John Rice memorabilia collection contains university related items collected by the EMU videographer John Rice between 1986 and 2009. The collection is made up of primarily T-shirts and photographs from university events and these make up two of the three series in the collection

Separated Materials

Savoring the Sweetness a VHS about EMU's basketball team reaching the NCAA Sweet Sixteen was separated from the collection and added to the Athletics materials.
