Scope and Contents

The Course Proposal records contains information regarding the proposed changes to classes, and the addition and cancellation of courses. The collection documents courses from each of the colleges on Eastern Michigan University's campus. Records date from 1967-2004.

The nine series in the collection are: College of Arts and Sciences, Basic Studies, College of Business, College of Education, College of Health and Human Services, College of Technology, Class Approval, Classes Cancelled and Program and Resource Planning. Within the College of Arts and Sciences series, materials are further divided by department and arranged chronologically. The Basic Studies series also includes committee meeting minutes, correspondence, and course proposals. All other series' materials are organized by graduate and undergraduate level courses when possible, and then arranged chronologically.

Abstract

The Course Proposal records document the many alterations in courses offered at Eastern Michigan University. The collection contains information about each college at the University, including graduate and undergraduate proposals. Course proposals contain detailed information about what specific alterations, cancellations or additions will be made to a course. The collection is divided into nine series. Records date from 1967-2004.

Arrangement of materials

This collection is arranged in nine series: 1. College of Arts and Sciences which includes course proposals from African American studies, art, biology, chemistry, communication and theater arts, computer science, economics, English language and literature, foreign language and bilingual studies, geography and geology, history and philosophy, humanities, math, music, physics and astronomy, political science, psychology, sociology and criminology, women's and gender studies; 2. Basic Studies including committee meeting minutes, correspondence and course proposals; 3. College of Business including graduate and undergraduate course proposals; 4. College of Education includes graduate and undergraduate proposals; 5. College of Health and Human Services, including graduate and undergraduate course proposals; 6. College of Technology includes graduate and undergraduate course proposals; 7. Class Approval including approval forms from 1967-1989; 8. Classes Cancelled includes cancellation forms from 1988; 9. Program and Resource Planning includes College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, Graduate School, College of Health and Human Services, and College of Technology.
