Honors College records
Abstract
The Honors College Records are comprised primarily of administrative files, correspondence; evaluation reports and monthly reports; publications, including newsletters and handbooks; and the Michigan Board of Education Summer Institute handbooks. Materials were generated by the Honors College. The collection is intellectually arranged in four series: ADMINISTRATIVE FILES, including Board of Regents Recommendation, classes and course evaluations, faculty handbooks, general information regarding the college, and senior thesis guidelines; MONTHLY REPORTS; PUBLICATIONS including clippings, The Honors Journal; Honorable Mention Newsletter; and student handbooks; SUMMER INSTITUTE conducted by the Michigan State Board of Education on the Arts and Sciences. Although the records are comprehensive, they are not a complete record of the activities of the Honors College.

Administrative history note
Beginning in 1984, under the guise of Dr. Robert Holkeboer, Dean of the Graduate School, who conceived, implemented and directed the new university-wide honors program. At its inception, the Eastern Michigan University Honors College, utilized innovative recruiting strategies which included annual competitions for 12 full-ride 4-year scholarships, and the program flourished in its first 5 years to over 900+ students. Today, the Honors College is housed in Starkweather Hall and continues to flourish with approximately 250 students admitted annually.
