Abstract

The Washtenaw County Historic Preservation Office Project records primarily documents the four Histweb projects, but includes additional files on Certified Local Government, the Historic District Commission, and general files on Washtenaw County related to historic districts and preservation. It is not a complete record of the Preservation office, or of the Histweb projects, but it does include planning documentation including grant applications, final reports, meeting minutes, and promotional materials from the projects. The surveys and maps subseries in the county files are for a single township and photostats of maps. Records in the collection date from the 1980s through 2008.

Biographical / Historical

The Historic Preservation Program office for Washtenaw County serves to information on the City's historic districts, review building permit applications for property within historic districts, assist with the applications for and regulations pertaining to historic districts. In the early 2000s, the Historic Preservation Office received a series of grants to disseminate information about the historic areas in Washtenaw County. Titled Histweb, there were four iterations of the grant funded by the state. The first iteration was a database of rural building surveys that had been completed by the Historic Preservation program in the 1980s. Histweb II & III were surveys of Bridgewater and Manchester, Michigan respectfully. The final iteration of the project were four heritage driving tours in Washtenaw County.
