Abstract
Office of Dean of Student records contains the following material:
administrative records, financial records (annual reports, budget reports), policy procedures, historical note records, memos, information on several scholarships, financial opportunities, newspaper clippings pertaining to multicultural affairs, code of conduct/ student judiciary committee, grade grievances, Greek life and campus resources, staff directory, invitations to various events, luncheons, a manual of student activities, students with disabilities manual and brochure and student publications.
These records document the daily business activities of administrators at EMU, principally the Office of Dean(s)
The date range for the collection is 1934 to 2004.
These are early documents pertaining to Eastern Michigan University's earlier Michigan State Normal College during the 1930s.
The documents pertain to the various administrative functions connected with the Dean's office. Documents such as those pertaining to disciplinary actions, anniversary celebrations, administrative decisions, awards and scholarships, budget reports and various policies.

Biographical / Historical
The Office of Dean is a senior post who reported to the Vice President for Student Affairs. This is a legacy title which represented the current Assistant VP for Academic Services under the current administrative hierarchy (2018). Established in 1963, it was an office which consolidated two earlier administrative offices - Dean of Men and Dean of Women. These offices presided over academic affairs to their representative bodies.
The Dean of Men and Dean of Women offices functioned under the then Michigan State Normal College (1899-1955) administration. Records pertaining to this time period include a memo concerning the Centennial anniversary of the Michigan State Normal College. Records pertaining to the Office of Dean of Women document the administrative functions and academic affairs of the female student body at the school. All documents generated by this office date from 1934-1935, some thirty years before the Dean of Men and Dean of Women offices were consolidated.
The Office of Dean supervised various aspects of academic life, including student policies, scholarships award applications. The office also oversaw various administrative aspects of the school, which included budget requests, social functions, and judicial board. Lesser functions included overseeing of document formation, such as directories for administrative offices, flyers created for various offices under the Dean's supervision.
