Scope and Contents
The Library Orientation Exchange or LOEX is a self-supporting, non-profit educational clearinghouse for library instruction and information literacy information. Founded in 1971 after the "First Annual Conference on Library Orientation" at Eastern Michigan University, LOEX has grown from a lending repository of library instruction materials and host of an annual conference on the subject to an internationally known organization that serves as a conduit for those working in the field. The LOEX records provides information about the world of library instruction and information literacy. It documents over 40 years of resources created, shared and used by librarians and other professionals in the field.
Records are arranged in seven series, Conferences and Workshop, Evaluations, Handbooks, Policies and Procedures, Press and Publications, Teaching and Higher Education, and Audio-Visual Materials
The Conference and Workshops series is arranged chronologically with each year from 1971-2014 documents. Each year varies in its documentation from just a conference program to pre-conference materials, correspondence, and publicity. The Evaluations, Handbooks, and Policies and Procedures series include example forms and arranged alphabetically.
The Press and Publications series includes materials specific to the LOEX organization including clippings, articles, and press releases, as well as the following LOEX publications: Currents, LOEX News, and LOEX Quarterly. The materials in these subseries are arranged chronologically.
The Teaching and Higher Education and Audio-Visual Materials series both contain examples created by a variety of institutes of higher learning housed and circulated by LOEX which served as a clearing house of information in the earliest years of the organization. These materials, with the exception of the video recordings, are arranged alphabetically.
