Abstract

The LGBT organizations collection documents the activities of multiple organizations and programs at Eastern Michigan University, including the what is currently known at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center and the former Equality Resource Center (formerly the Center for Study of Equality and Human Rights). The records in the collection date from 1973-2018 and include news releases, clippings, event flyers and pamphlets, materials related to the Queer Regional Student Leadership Summit, and the LGBTRC.LMNOP Newsletter.

Administrative History

The LGBT Organizations collection attempts to document the organizations that have supported the LGBTQIA+ communities at Eastern Michigan University. Organizations documented to variying degrees within the collection include: Queer Unity for Eastern Students (QUEST), Eastern Pride Education Coalition (EPEC), the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center, Gay Student Union (GSU), Gay Student Association (GSA), Student Alliance for Gay Athletes/Allies (SAGA), Tri-Pride, Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Faculty and Staff Coalition (LGBFSAC), Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Support Services Offices, Chi Theta Sigma, and Delta Lambda Phi.

Additional materials related to the Equality Research Center were donated in 2023. Initially established in 2010 as the Center for the Study of Equality and Human Rights with a gift from Alum and former Regent Timothy Dyer, it was renamed the Equality Research Center in 2014.

This collection is not a complete record of the LGBTQ community at Eastern Michigan University. Additional resources maybe found at the LGBTQ Resource Center, the faculty of the Women's and Gender Studies Department and Student Organizations offices.
