Abstract

The Phi Sigma Phi Fraternity collection contains information from the Chi Delta, Phi Sigma Epsilon, and Phi Sigma Phi Fraternities at Eastern Michigan University. It includes Chi Delta papers, lists, and the secretary's book from 1914. The collection also contains clippings, constitutions and by-laws, correspondence, newsletters, legal reports, membership lists, status reports, recognition forms, incorporation papers, and other miscellaneous articles of the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. The Phi Sigma Phi constitution and by-laws, correspondence, newsletter, clippings, and miscellaneous papers complete the collection. Though Phi Sigma Phi is the current fraternity, the majority of the collection documents Chi Delta and Phi Sigma Epsilon.

Historical note

The local Chi Delta Fraternity was founded in 1914 at Eastern Michigan University, but became the Lambda chapter of the national fraternity Phi Sigma Epsilon in 1934. After Phi Sigma Epsilon merged with Phi Sigma Kappa, the Lambda chapter did not merge and tried to keep the name Phi Sigma Epsilon, resulting in a law suit with Phi Sigma Kappa. After Phi Sigma Phi was founded, the former Phi Sigma Epsilon chapter of Eastern Michigan University became part of the fraternity in 1988.
