The Department of Communication, Media and Theatre Arts records collection contains program descriptions, news releases, clippings, inter-departmental correspondence and the Arts and Entertainment Newsletter from 1982 to 2010.

The Department of Communication, Media and Theatre Arts collection is divided into two series: Department communications and Department governance. The Communications series includes materials published and distributed by the department, as well as relevant newspaper clippings. The Governance series includes materials related to the administration of the department. Materials are organized in chronological order.

Administrative History

Through a variety of degree programs the Department of Communication, Media and Theatre Arts provides students with communication and performance skills fundamental to careers in broadcasting, theatre, teaching, public relations, sales and related professions such as law and ministry. All the department's programs including forensics, interpretation/ performance studies, theatre arts, and dramatic productions for the young, provide students with opportunities for developing such personal qualities as creativity, leadership, self-expression, and social responsibility. Arts management and communication technology curricula require business studies in addition to aesthetic and pragmatic communication skills.

Abstract

The Department of Communication, Media, and Theatre Arts records includes materials related to the history and governance of the department, particularly program descriptions, news releases, clippings, inter-departmental correspondence and the Arts and Entertainment newsletter from 1982 to 2010. The Department of Communication, Media and Theatre Arts was previously known as the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts and prior to that, the majority of courses were offer through the Department of Speech and Dramatic Arts.
