Scope and Contents
The Women's and Gender Studies Department records are arranged into 4 series. The Administrative Files series contains correspondence, course files, an Introduction to Women's Studies file, minutes, program descriptions, program reviews, and a Proposal for a Major in Women's Studies file. The Audio/Visual series contains cassette tapes and VHS tapes. The Events series contains fliers and files such as Girls and Women in Conversation Conference, Honors Reception, Michigan Women's Studies Association Conference, and Women's History Month. The Press series contains clippings, newsletters, new releases, pamphlets, and photographs. There is also a file of collected poems in the collection.
Materials are arranged alphabetically.

Administrative note
The Women's and Gender Studies Department was initiated in 1975 and has grown from offering the first minor in Women's Studies in Michigan, to offering an undergraduate major and minor, and the state's only stand-alone Master of Arts in Women's and Gender Studies. In 2003, the Women's Studies Program added "Gender" to its name, and launched a minor in Queer Studies in 2013. Courses offer an education that focuses on contributions of women to history, literature, science, education, family and work in a cultural context, as well as insights into the psychology of women, the impact of women on social structures and how women influence contemporary society.

Abstract
