Scope and Contents

The School of Nursing records documents the inner workings of the nursing program. The collection is divided into two series: Administration and Curriculum, and Publicity and Outreach. The Administration and Curriculum series includes applications, collaboration with Concordia College, course books and resources, handbooks, history and a program description. The Publicity and Outreach series contains brochures, clippings, correspondence, invitations and announcements, news releases, and Scholarly Achievement Day. The collection is arranged alphabetically. Records date 1971-2009.

Biographical / Historical

The Department of Nursing Education at Eastern Michigan University was established in 1971. The department was created in response for a public need: a shortage of nurses in Michigan. Known as the School of Nursing since 2004, the nursing program strives to extend knowledge through research, and to prepare competent and caring professionals. The School of Nursing offers degrees in both Bachelor's and Master's of Science. Approved by the State Board of Nursing in 1973, Eastern Michigan University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program has had continuous professional accreditation since 1978. The BSN and MSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education through 2022 December.
