Student Aid records
Scope and Contents
The Student Aid records contain information regarding the first scholarship and loan program developed for students of the Normal College. From 1904 through the late 1960s, the Student Aid Corporation utilized donations and investing to provide students with scholarships and loans. The records are arranged into one ADMINISTRATIVE series which includes the articles of incorporation of the Normal College Scholarship and Loan Association, later identified as the Student Aid Corporation. Also included are annual audits and reports and documents exploring the history of the program.

Biographical / Historical
The first Normal College Scholarship and Loan Association was incorporated on October 25, 1904 by President L.H. Jones and 16 department heads. The original bequests from January 1, 1905 amounted to $490.00 amassed from six donors.
The Student Aid Corporation was chartered on October 4, 1928 as a non-profit sharing corporation under the laws of the State of Michigan and this entity replaced the original Loan Association. Fundraising and donor efforts resulted in the formation of 38 loan funds, 37 scholarship funds, and five special endowments.
As of June 17, 1950, the investements were split into two categories: nine varieties of government/industrial stock securities and 28 mortgages and land contracts.
