Abstract

Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority was founded at Eastern Michigan University in 1899. It was originally founded as an educational organization, but is now regarded as a social sorority. The collection contains two oversized paddles, traditionally given to members by a "big sister".

Abstract Greek organizations have been a strong presence on the campus of Eastern Michigan University almost since the institution's inception, with the establishment of The Lyceum in the mid-1800's. Many other Greek organizations followed, and have ever since maintained an influence at EMU.
