Abstract

The Office of Public Information News Releases is arranged chronologically by decade and contain news releases and newspaper clippings generated by the Office of Public Information, beginning in 1959 when the office was established and end in 2009 when all releases were distributed electronically. This office is currently known as the University Communications Department and all releases published since 2009 are available through the website http://www.emich.edu/univcomm/releases/

Biographical / Historical

In 1959, when Eastern Michigan College was renamed Eastern Michigan University, the Department of Public Information was created to generate and disseminate news releases and other correspondence directed to the media. These news releases concerned the University in all aspects - administrative changes, campus life, campus safety, programs of study, honors and accolades, research, organizations, events and so on.

Since 2009, this office has been part of the University Communications Department whose self described duties include writing and distributing content about faculty research, student accomplishments, and general EMU initiatives to local, state, and national media outlets.
