Sigma Sigma Sigma (Tri-Sigma) Sorority collection
Abstract
The Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, Omicron Chapter started as a local sorority at the Michigan State Normal College when the Alpha Beta Sigma Sorority began in 1912. In January, 1917 this local sorority joined the national Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and is often referred to as Tri-Sig. The Sigma Sigma Sigma (Tri-Sigma) Sorority collection contains consitutions and bylaws; membership information; flyers and news clippings; and a pledge paddle from the 1960s. It is not a very complete or comprehensive collection given that it is one of the oldest sororities on campus.

Historical Note
The Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, Omicron Chapter started as a local sorority at the Michigan State Normal College when the Alpha Beta Sigma Sorority was founded in 1912. In January, 1917 they joined the national sorority which is also known as Tri-Sig or Tri-Sigma. The Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority was founded in 1898 in Farmville, Virginia at the Normal School for the area. They received articles of incorporation from the Commonwealth of Virginia in February 1903 and began to add chapters from colleges and universities across the country. The Omicron Chapter at Eastern Michigan University continues to be active on campus as a social sorority.
