Abstract

The files of the Art Management Program document the program primarily through student projects, theses and papers, that make up the majority of the collection. Materials in the collection date from 1990 through 2018. There is one file for the instruction of CTAR 452, and one object for the Ken Stevens endowed scholarship. Nothing in the collection documents the daily, or annual administration of the program, courses offered, course development, and the intersection of the program and the community. That said, the student's work is valuable for researchers interested in community arts organizations, public art, performing art and production processes.

Administrative History note

Ken Stevens joined the faculty of Eastern Michigan University in 1973, and within five years had helped to create a major in arts management, making the university one of the first Institutions of higher education to create a major in arts management.

By 1985, a graduate program in Arts Management was established to prepare students for assuming administrative positions within performing and visual arts organizations and initiate creative entrepreneurial projects in arts and cultural businesses. The program of Arts and Entertainment Management and Administration included courses offered by the College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences.

A founding member of the Association of Arts Administration Educators, Eastern Michigan University continues to be active in this national organization and in the arts community in Southeast Michigan.

When Ken Stevens retired in 2014, Susan Badger Booth took over the administration of the program.

The materials donated to the University Archives from the Arts Administation & Management program were maintained in their entirety. Questions related to any student work submitted for the completion of degrees or courses that is not included in the collection should be directed to the program.
