Abstract
The Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia records contain materials from 1930-1990, with most of the collection ranging from 1965-1980. Materials include chapter and national reports, membership details, financial statements, correspondences, and other documents. This collection is useful to the study of fraternal organizations, bureaucracy, and campus life at Eastern Michigan University.

Biographical / Historical
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia was founded at the New England Conservatory in 1898, as a professional fraternity focued on music. The goal of the fraternity was to encourage creativity, develop loyalty to the alma mater, and to promote the brotherhood of students. The Delta Xi chapter at the Michigan State Normal College was founded in 1948, when it was adopted into Province 2, the regional organization for Phi Mu Alpha.
