The Ellene (Nina) Tatras Contis papers inlude materials inherited and created by Nina Contis during her tenure in the Provost's Office from 2002 through 2006. The papers have been arranged into one ACADEMIC AFFAIRS series, with multiple subseries focused on individual colleges. Materials include budget information, correspondence, and salary records.

Biographical / Historical
Ellene (Nina) Tatras Contis is a faculty member in EMU's College of Arts and Sciences in the Chemistry Department. She received her Bachelor of Science from Youngstown State University, her Master of Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. She is the Director of the Creative Scientific Inquiry Experience (CSIE) program and Professor of Chemistry at EMU. She is a full Professor with research interests in the study of short-lived fission products of 235U; the use of electronic technology in chemical education; issues for women in science; and the study of trace elements in water. On the international scene, Ellene chairs the International Activities Committee of the American Chemical Society. She is an ACS Fellow and a Fulbright Specialist – Pakistan. Her passions focus on globalizing chemistry education and building networks for both students and chemists. From 2002 - 2004, Contis held the position of Assistant Vice President for Administrative Services, and then from 2004 - 2006 she served as the Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Studies and Curriculum (now known as Associate Provost). She was the Chair of the President's Commission on Women from 2020 through 2022. Dr. Contis retired in December 2021.
