The Urban and Regional Planning program records douments the inner workings of the urban planning program. The collection includes one series: ADMINISTRATION. Biographical / Historical

The mission of the Eastern Michigan University Urban and Regional Planning Program is to prepare students to engage in careers in urban planning and related areas. The program is structured to emphasize the practical application of planning knowledge and skills in addressing community planning concerns.

Abstract

The Urban and Regional Planning Program records document the urban planning program at Eastern Michigan University. The Urban and Regional Planning program provides an integrated curriculum with courses that complement and build upon each other in developing a full range of planning knowledge and skills. The undergraduate program consists of both practical and applied coursework including studying land use, zoning, problems of urban growth and local decision-making; learning how to develop zoning ordinances, analyzing site plans, critiquing general development plans, administering local planning regulations and preparing and reviewing grant applications, environmental impact statements and policy planning programs; making a difference at a public planning agency or private planning firm. The graduate program includes advanced and applied coursework that prepares students to work in city and regional planning agencies and private consulting firms. Graduates are highly sought after because of this degree's emphasis on skills in land use and environmental planning and geographic information systems (GIS).
